If you stayed with us at Pan Pacific Perth before, you may have noticed our Les Clefs d’Or Concierges, Andre Burford and Milton Lima, with their golden keys lapel pins – but have you wondered what these pins truly represent? Andre and Milton are in fact members of Les Clefs d’Or® – an international, non-profit organization connecting a global network of professional hotel Concierges who, through their expertise and insider connections maintained through this very network, hold “keys to the city”. From planning the most romantic dinner date at a Michelin-starred restaurant to securing tickets to a sold-out performance, you may have a better chance of telling an epic travel story when you have had a little help from a Les Clefs d’Or Concierge. Meet our very own, and enjoy the stories and tips they have to share!

Les Clefs d’Or Concierge at Pan Pacific Perth

Please provide a bit of history about yourself and why you love your job.
I’ve been working as a Concierge for more years than I care to remember, although I have only been in the Chief Concierge role for seven years.

It is a somewhat clichéd expression but meeting people would be the most enjoyable part of the role. If you don’t enjoy genuinely engaging with people then this part of Hospitality is not for you.  Assisting guests with their needs and making their stay memorable and comfortable remains central to what we do.

What’s your favourite neighbourhood and why?
My favourite is Swan Valley. It is located about 30 minutes east of Perth and offers something for everyone. Whether you are a resident of Western Australia, an interstate or international visitor, Swan Valley offers winery experiences, breweries, wildlife parks and great local produce. You may be tempted to purchase a bottle or six!

The valley is continually growing its appeal to become a premium location for outdoor concerts with events being held with international artists.

What’s the most memorable request you have got from a guest?
My most memorable request was from a heavy metal rock band we had staying in the hotel. They requested a monkey costume for their show that evening. We were able to recommend a company, organise transport and deliver to the hotel before the event. From the feedback I received the following morning they loved it and the night was a great success.

Any hot tips about places in the city?
For the caffeine addicts just a short walk from the hotel on Hay Street there is small espresso bar called Lowdown where you can enjoy a freshly brewed coffee or just a quick breakfast.

If you have more of a sweet tooth, you will love The Honey Cake Shop situated downstairs of the Old Treasury Building on St Georges Terrace. Enjoy unique and delicious homemade cakes of Bohemian Heritage.

Please provide a bit of history about yourself and why you love your job
My name is Milton Lima and I was born in Portugal with the blood of my ancestors that travelled the globe and discovered New Worlds. I have moved from London to Perth in 2016 to enjoy the sunny weather and laid back lifestyle of Perth. But it was in London where I started my career and fell in love with what I do today. I learned that we are responsible for the lives we touch.

What’s your favourite neighbourhood and why?
Northbridge is the hot spot if you are looking for a great night out. There are heaps of great restaurants, funky bars and a real buzz. I would compare it a lot with Soho in London – the place that never sleeps.

Any hot tips about places in the city?
Start your day in East Perth with brekkie at Toast – a waterfront cafe with great coffee, a cosy vibe and is also child-friendly. After breakfast take a short walk to the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) and visit the museum of the home of WA cricket. From there the Yellow CAT bus is the best way to see the city. You can hop on and off as often as you like without paying!

For shopping lovers, stop by Hay or Murray Street or visit the London Court – the iconic shopping arcade.  For Lunch try the Petition Kitchen located in the Old Treasury building. End your day with a view – make a booking at C Restaurant and take in the skyline of Perth whilst slipping on a glass of bubbly before indulging in a great meal!
